“Words cannot express how much I love my wife and how much I want her to be recognized for the special person she is.”
— Colby Peterson, nominator
Andrea Peterson is a soft-spoken, hard-working woman with a reputation for putting others first. Her daughters are grown now, and she’s proud of having raised them alone. She tried to provide a good life while giving them each what they needed emotionally. “Giving” could be Andrea’s middle name; it’s just what she does. Andrea gives her time wherever she can: helping at church, volunteering at animal rescue shelters, and always being there for a friend — or stranger — who needs help. She gives her money, too, although she doesn’t have it to give. She was working two jobs, but due to her health issues, she’s down to one, and some days, that’s a struggle. Andrea has battled a neurological disorder her whole life, and last year, she was diagnosed with diastolic heart failure. Medical bills are mounting, and the prospect of having much of a holiday celebration looks bleak, but that doesn’t stop Andrea from spreading kindness.
Projecting caring and kindness
Andrea believes in going the extra mile for family, friends, and total strangers, and her prognosis is not standing in the way of who she is. She’s a nurturing lady, projecting caring and kindness. Colby Peterson, Andrea’s husband and nominator, painted such an incredible picture of Andrea’s positivity and warmth, of her determination to push past her own circumstances and just make someone’s day whenever possible, that we had to meet this amazing lady and grant her a Magic Moment.
Creating moments of joy
The Petersons are a close-knit couple. They love spending time together, going to the movies, and just being with the rest of the family. This holiday season, Andrea and Colby can count on some extra-special moments of joy. Thanks to Home Depot, they have a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, and UBT and our amazing partners worked together to put all kinds of special presents under it — including some pampering for the lady who likes to take care of others. Gas cards take the pressure off of getting to appointments, because we want Colby and Andrea to focus on spending time together — nothing else. Andrea, thank you for making a difference in the lives of others. May all your love come back to you this holiday season.
